Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What do these stars mean? Or what does Ad-reduced mean?
A: The gold star (

) means
that a site is completely Ad-free for BetterThanAds subscribers. The silver
star (

) means that a site
is Ad-reduced for BetterThanAds subscribers, meaning that there is at most one
ad unit per screen of content. Our hope is that all sites can be fully
supported and get to show these icons. If you believe that a site incorrectly
has an icon (ie a gold star site shows ads), please report the site using the link
provided on the site's profile page. If a site has too many "reports" of
infringement, we will investigate and suspend payment if necessary.
Q: My site is listed as a stub, but I never registered, what gives?
A: While testing, we used a small greasemonkey script to inject our
plugin onto pages. This allowed us to see how well our tracking worked. You can
claim the site (and its accumulated earnings) or, if you don't want the free
money, you can
request that we remove it.
Q: Why does BetterThanAds charge me these
processing fees? Where does the other 5% of site payments go?
A: The majority of these fees cover our credit card/ACH processing
expenses (seriously, its not cheap - check it out if you don't believe us). The
small amount remaining pays for our rent, bills, and servers.
Q: Why does BetterThanAds use a Browser plugin instead of JavaScript?
A: Simply put, its simpler, faster, and more secure with your private
information. It's simpler for websites to include on their pages. Faster for
the website to load, and faster for your web browsing experience (since it's
done on your own computer). Most importantly, it's secure because all payment
processing is done through the plugin over a secure connection directly to our
site. Your personal information is never transmitted in the clear during the
transaction and cannot easily be compromised by a third party.
Q: Why is your website so ugly? Why aren't more sites supported?
A: We're trying to keep our costs down. By not paying for a graphic
designer or marketing plan, we save a lot of money, which we pass on to our
customers as lower fees. That way, more of your money gets to the web site
owners. We don't want to line our pockets, we just want to make a better
internet by reducing the adversiting.
