We don't track the individual pages you go to, and we don't ever share your personal information. What you see on our website is all we have, and our plugin only tracks the number of times you've been to a site, no pages and no access times or other information (its open source, see for yourself!) Tracking is opt-in only, there literally is no way for us to track visitors without the plugin installed. Other services use javascript, which always leaks the page you are on, what time it is, and even your IP address - without even signing up for the service! These services can track people who aren't even members, just for visiting a site that has their code installed. Nothing is sacred.
We send the most of our users' money to the sites they want to support, our fees are lower than any similar service. How can we do this? because we're only 2 guys, not a huge team of businessmen, marketers, and customer service people buring through millions of dollars in venture capital. We're not spending lots of cash to bring in new users and sites, so we don't need to cover those expenses with high margins. We're not doing this specifically for the newspaper sites or social networks, but for the web in general. For us, this is about sustaining the web, not lining pockets.
Our plugin is fast and light. You don't have to wait for extra javascript to load on every page you visit. If you run a site, you don't have to worry about our servers keeping up with your traffic. Also, since it's opt-in tracking, you don't have to worry about the liability of sharing your visitors' information with us. Finally, because the plugin is open source, our users can contribute to make it better, stronger, and faster, and no one has to worry that we're collecting more information than we say we are.
